Rakuten Gold. Eagles vs Chiba Lotte Marines

Rakuten starter Shoji (6-9) settled completely after Yamaguchi's early homer. He worked through traffic without further damage, holding Lotte to two runs on three hits over his outing. From the 2nd inning onward, Lotte managed only one more hit — a Fujiwara single in the 6th — and never advanced a runner past second base. The bullpen trio of Kutani, Tai and Marte closed the door with three perfect innings, striking out four.

Shoji (Rakuten) — Winning pitcher. After a rocky first inning he retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced. Season record moves to 6-9.

Ryosuke Tatsumi (Rakuten) — 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBIs. Led off the game's response with a solo shot and added a single in the 3rd that sparked the go-ahead rally.

Hikaru Ota (Rakuten) — 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBIs, 2 runs. The catcher entered with a .214 average but delivered the dagger in the 8th with a two-run blast.

Koki Yamaguchi (Lotte) — 1-for-2, HR (21st), 2 RBIs, 2 walks. Provided Lotte's only offence with a first-inning blast. No other Marine had an extra-base hit.

Neftali Soto (Lotte) — 0-for-4, 4 strikeouts. The designated hitter's golden sombrero encapsulated Lotte's offensive struggles.

Lotte managed just three hits all game — the fewest by either side in this season series — while striking out 10 times. Rakuten out-hit the visitors 11-3 and hit safely in seven of eight innings. The Eagles' 11 hits translated to six runs, driven largely by two home runs and timely two-out hitting in the 3rd. Yamaguchi's homer accounted for all of Lotte's RBIs; no other Marine reached scoring position after the 1st inning.

Rakuten (5-10 in the season series) pulled within five games of Lotte in the Pacific League standings — Lotte sits 5th, Rakuten 6th — with a performance that suggested the gap may be narrower than the head-to-head record implies. Both sides play again in the coming days as the NPB regular season enters its final stretch. Rakuten's next fixture is at home against the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters; Lotte travel to face the Saitama Seibu Lions.

A dominant response performance from Rakuten after an early setback. Shoji's composure after the first-inning homer and the bullpen's spotless relief work gave the Eagles a platform their bats exploited. Lotte's offence, outside Yamaguchi, offered nothing — three hits and 10 strikeouts is not a winning formula against any NPB side.
