For the first two innings, Otsu looked in control. He retired six of the first seven batters he faced, allowing only a walk to Tsuyoshi Tamura.

The game flipped in the bottom of the third. With one out, Atsushi Nishikawa reached on an infield single. Catcher Yamamoto attempted to throw to first but fired wide, allowing Nishikawa to advance to second. A walk and a fielder's choice loaded the bases. Otsu then struck out Kaito Kida for the second out and appeared to escape when Kotaro Ohta grounded to third. However, third baseman Hotaka Kurihara's throw to first sailed wide, letting two runs score. Kurebayashi followed with an RBI double, and singles by Nakagawa and Yamanaka plated two more. Four runs, all unearned.

SoftBank clawed back with single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. A sacrifice fly from Ukyo Shuto in the fifth, an RBI single from Kawase in the sixth, and a Kurihara double in the seventh made it 4-3. But Orix relievers held firm — Tomiyama, Higashiyama, and Yamazaki bridged the gap to closer Andres Machado, who worked a perfect ninth for his 28th save.

The third inning. Otsu had done his job — a ground ball to third with two outs should have ended the frame. Kurihara's rushed, one-bounce throw pulled the first baseman off the bag, opening the floodgates.

Kotaro Kurebayashi (Orix) — Player of the Match. The shortstop went 2-for-4 with a double and the game's decisive RBI, providing the hit that turned a one-run lead into a 4-0 cushion. His season average sits at .264 with 14 home runs.

Yasutaka Takashima (Orix) — The winning pitcher (5-4) delivered 5 innings of one-run ball, scattering four hits with three walks and one strikeout on 78 pitches.

Andres Machado (Orix) — Dominant in the ninth. The closer needed just 15 pitches to strike out two and secure his 28th save of the season. His ERA stands at 1.25.

Kawase (SoftBank) — Reached base three times with two hits including a double, drove in a run, and played a solid game on both sides as the highlights package shows.

The page-level stat widget shows the raw totals, but the real picture is in the quality of chances. Orix out-hit SoftBank 9-8 but managed only two RBIs — all four runs were unearned. SoftBank stranded eight runners and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Orix bullpen (Tomiyama, Higashiyama, Yamazaki, Machado) covered four innings, allowing seven baserunners but only two earned runs. Critically, Machado faced the minimum in the ninth.

SoftBank gifted Orix a win the Hawks' starter had earned. Four unearned runs on two errors decided a game that was otherwise even. For Orix, it is a sorely needed victory against the league's best — but only three relievers stood between a win and another what-if loss. For SoftBank, the defensive focus from Kokubo suggests changes may come before tomorrow's opener.
