The 2024 Spring Koshien champions are making their first Summer Koshien quarterfinal appearance since 2014 — a 12-year gap. In the Round of 16 on August 16, they beat Sano Nichidai (Tochigi) 4-1. After falling behind 1-0, they rallied in the bottom of the second on consecutive hits from Yurai Iwai and Hoki Toyonaga, then added insurance in the sixth on a Renji Kano RBI single. Ariake is making its first appearance at Koshien in either spring or summer — the first school since Toyama Daiichi (2013) to reach a Summer Koshien quarterfinal in its debut appearance. All three of Ariake's wins have been come-from-behind. In their Round of 16 game on August 16, they trailed Higashi-Nippon Dai Shouhei (Fukushima) 1-0 before erupting for four runs in the top of the eighth, triggered by a bunt single from leadoff man Haruki Nagata and capped by a go-ahead two-run pinch-hit single by Ryotaro Hirosawa and an RBI hit by Akira Sakaei. Kendai Takasaki's strength is its pitching depth — the team used four arms in the Round of 16, rotating lefties and righties to keep hitters off balance. Ariake's hitters must adjust quickly to different looks each time through the order.

Ariake's hallmark is late-inning pressure. Their table-setting revolves around Nagata's bunting and baserunning, which creates chaos. Kendai Takasaki will need to be sharp defensively to prevent small cracks from becoming big innings.
