Toros de Tijuana vs Jalisco

The game remained scoreless through four innings as both starters — Martínez for Tijuana and Manny Barreda for Jalisco — traded zeroes. Hernán Pérez capped the scoring in the eighth with a double, eventually coming around on a Jonathan Guzmán single to make it 4-0.

Martínez's six-inning scoreless start set the tone, but the game turned in the fifth when Toros finally broke through against Barreda. Until then, Jalisco had matched Tijuana pitch-for-pitch. Once the lead was on the board, the Toros bullpen — Miguel Díaz, Jonathan Aro and Roel Ramírez — shut the door with three hitless innings, allowing just two baserunners combined.

• Daniel Martínez (TOR): The LMB ERA leader lived up to his billing, firing six scoreless innings. He scattered four hits, walked two and struck out five to earn the win. His 1.94 ERA entering the night was the best in the league, and this outing only reinforced his value as Tijuana's Game 1 ace.
• Roel Ramírez (TOR): Retired all four batters he faced across the eighth and ninth, striking out one, to lock down the save.
• Manny Barreda (JAL): Deserved a better fate. The Charros starter allowed two runs (one earned) over five-plus innings but was let down by a defence that committed a costly error and a catcher's throwing miscue.
• Tomás Telis (TOR): Set the table from the leadoff spot with a double and a run scored, sparking the first rally.

The 4-0 final undersells Tijuana's dominance after the fourth inning. Toros out-hit Jalisco 8-4 and took full advantage of two Charros defensive lapses that turned a tight game into a comfortable lead. The game was a pitchers' duel for four innings (six total baserunners combined through four frames) before Tijuana's offence and Jalisco's miscues broke it open.

Tijuana takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Zona Norte Series. The Toros, who finished the regular season at 60-31 — the best record in the LMB — held serve at home as expected. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, again at Toros Mobil Park (19:35 PT / 20:35 CT). Jalisco will need to tighten its defence and find a way to score against a Toros pitching staff that enters the series with the league's best staff ERA.

A textbook playoff opener from the league's top seed: quality starting pitching, a clean bullpen, and opportunistic offence. Jalisco hung with Tijuana for four innings but self-inflicted errors turned a competitive game into a shutout loss. The Charros must win Game 2 to avoid returning to Zapopan down 0-2.
