The game was scoreless through one inning before Nagasaki Nihondai broke through in the second. Rissho Shonan finally answered in the bottom of the sixth. Kinjo delivered the team's first hit, and captain Ota Arashi followed with another. Kawaguchi drove in Kinjo with a groundout for Rissho Shonan's only run, making it 6-1.

That was as close as it got. Nagasaki Nihondai piled on three runs in the seventh, two in the eighth and four more in the ninth. Takeuchi collected four hits on the night, including a double and a triple.

The second inning decided the game's trajectory. Koike's 14-pitch battle against Kawaguchi set the tone — a grinding at-bat that ended with a 2-run single and forced Rissho Shonan to pitch from behind from the second frame onward. Against an offense that would eventually produce 18 hits, the early 3-0 lead gave Nagasaki Nihondai's pitchers the comfort to attack the strike zone. Rissho Shonan never led.

The 18-4 hit disparity tells the story: Nagasaki Nihondai's 18 hits against just 4 for Rissho Shonan produced 15 runs, a run-per-hit rate sustained by timely hitting with runners in scoring position (Koike's 14-pitch battle, multiple two-out hits). Nagasaki Nihondai scored in five of nine innings, never going more than two frames without adding to the lead.

Both teams committed three errors each, but Nagasaki Nihondai's offensive output made their defensive miscues irrelevant. Starter Kawaguchi absorbed 108 pitches for 11 outs, a heavy workload for a single elimination game.

Nagasaki Nihondai advance to the second round on Day 9 (13 August), where they will face Ariake (Kumamoto) in the first game of the day. For Nagasaki Nihondai, this is their first Koshien victory — across both the Spring Selection and Summer Championship tournaments — in 16 years (Nagasaki Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun).

Rissho Shonan, appearing in their first Summer Koshien in 14 years, bow out without a win. The Shimane representatives managed only one run on four hits and saw starter Kawaguchi labour through 108 pitches over 5⅓ innings. The team finished with a .133 batting average for the tournament.

A comprehensive beatdown from the second inning onward. Nagasaki Nihondai's bottom-of-the-order production (Koike, Takeuchi, Hiroishi combining for 8 hits and 6 RBI) turned this into a rout before the sixth inning ended. Rissho Shonan's pitching staff simply could not contain a lineup that applied pressure every frame, and with just four hits of their own, they never had a path back into the game.
