Matou Tayama (Sendai Ikuei) The senior No. 4 hitter followed up his tournament-opening home run on 5 August with the decisive RBI single here. His hit was the only extra-base knock the game produced in a contest otherwise defined by pitching.

Ryota Kurokawa (Hanasaki Tokuharu) The 3rd-year ace deserved a better fate. Kurokawa threw 135 pitches over eight innings, allowing one earned run on eight hits with one strikeout. Only one run scored against him — unearned in the conventional scoring — and he kept Sendai Ikuei off the board in the seventh and eighth despite traffic on the bases.

Both teams combined for 13 hits but only the one run — a ratio (13 H, 1 R) that illustrates the quality of situational pitching. Hanasaki Tokuharu went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, sending 23 batters to the plate but never advancing a runner past second base after the third inning. Sendai Ikuei's 8 hits were spread across six different batters, reflecting Kurokawa's success at preventing the multi-hit inning — until the decisive sixth, when three consecutive batters reached safely. Hanasaki Tokuharu — the 2017 national champion and a Spring Koshien quarter-finalist in 2026 — exit the tournament after a single elimination loss. Kurokawa's high school career ends with 135 pitches of gutsy baseball in a 1-0 defeat that was never more than one swing from flipping.

A classic Koshien pitcher's duel decided by one textbook hit-and-run and a teenager's composure on the mound. Sendai Ikuei didn't overpower anyone — they simply made one more play than their opponent, and Furukawa refused to let the equaliser cross the plate.
