Omaha Storm Chasers vs Rochester Red Wings

After two quiet innings, Rochester broke through in the third. Leandro Pineda singled to centre and advanced to second on a pickoff error. Seaver King followed with an RBI single to centre, scoring Pineda, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Morales crushed a two-run homer 414 feet to left-centre, giving the Red Wings a 3–0 lead.

The score stayed there until the seventh. Liover Peguero reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Pineda singled to left, and a throwing error by reliever Luke Little allowed Peguero to score. After a sacrifice bunt, Morales singled up the middle to plate Pineda and King, stretching the lead to 6–0.

Rochester put the game out of reach in the ninth. Phillip Glasser walked, Trey Lipscomb singled (extending his International League-leading hitting streak to 19 games), and Cayden Wallace crushed a three-run homer 439 feet at 108.3 mph exit velocity, making it 9–0.

Morales' two-run homer in the third gave Rochester a lead it never relinquished — but the game was effectively sealed in the seventh when Rochester batted around, scoring three runs on two hits, a walk and an Omaha error. Red Wings relievers Riley Cornelio, Yovanny Cruz, Luis Perales and Jack Sinclair combined for six shutout innings after Jared Simpson opened with three scoreless frames.

• Yohandy Morales (ROC): 3-for-5, 2B, HR (24), 4 RBI, 2 runs. The Player of the Game produced the decisive early blast and added a two-run single in the seventh. His first career home run against Omaha.
• Cayden Wallace (ROC): 1-for-5, 3-run HR (439 ft, 108.3 mph EV). The ninth-inning blast put the exclamation point on the series.
• Trey Lipscomb (ROC): 1-for-4, BB — extended his IL-leading hit streak to 19 games with a ninth-inning single.
• Jared Simpson / Riley Cornelio (ROC): Simpson (opener): 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K. Cornelio (W, 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB) earned the win in relief.
• Abraham Toro (OMA): 3-for-4 — the only Storm Chaser with multiple hits against Rochester's bullpen.

The 9–0 scoreline reflects a game controlled from the third inning onward. Rochester's pitching staff allowed just four hits and struck out six Omaha batters, retiring nine of the last 10 Storm Chasers in order. Vince Velasquez (1-1) gave Omaha a chance — 5.0 innings, 3 earned runs, 6 strikeouts — but Omaha's bullpen imploded in the seventh and ninth innings, surrendering six runs on four hits. Omaha went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left only four men on base, a stark illustration of their inability to mount any threat.

Rochester (31-20 second half, 76-48 overall) took five of six games in the series and moved into position to challenge for the IL second-half lead. Omaha (24-25 second half, 57-66) fell below .500 in the second half. Both teams have Monday off. Rochester returns home for a six-game set against I-90 rivals the Buffalo Bisons starting Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. ET. Omaha travels to Des Moines to face the Iowa Cubs on Tuesday at 6:38 p.m. CT, with Lucas Braun scheduled to start.

Rochester delivered a complete performance: early power from Morales, a relentless seventh inning, an insurance blast from Wallace, and a combined shutout from five pitchers. The Red Wings enter the final stretch with momentum as they chase first place in the IL second-half standings.
