Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp vs Nashville Sounds

Nashville struck first when Blake Burke (2) crushed a two-out solo homer to right off Jacksonville starter Jace Beck in the top of the first — a 95.2 mph four-seam fastball that left his bat at 102 mph with a 39-degree launch angle, per MLB Statcast.

The score stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth. Cam Cannarella doubled with one out and scored when Deyvison De Los Santos put a groundball in play to third that was thrown wild to first, allowing Cannarella to motor home from third and knot the game at 1-1.

Jacksonville broke it open in the fifth, batting around to plate four runs. Matthew Etzel doubled and Logan Driscoll singled before Brendan Jones (1) launched his first career Triple-A home run — a three-run shot to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 4-1. Cannarella followed with his second double, scored on a Brayden Taylor triple, and De Los Santos singled home Taylor to make it 6-1.

The lead unravelled quickly. Nashville erupted for five runs in the top of the sixth. Walks to Brandon Lockridge and Burke plus a Brock Wilken single loaded the bases for Akil Baddoo, who delivered a two-run single to right. Jeferson Quero (13) then smashed a game-tying three-run homer to centre field — 6-6.

Jacksonville reclaimed the lead in the bottom half. Three walks loaded the bases for Kemp Alderman, whose RBI single made it 7-6.

Nashville answered again in the seventh. Baddoo singled, advanced to third on two walks and scored on an Ethan Murray fielder's choice groundball — 7-7.

The decisive rally came in the bottom of the seventh off Nashville reliever Carlos Rodriguez (L, 0-6). Jared Serna led off with a double and scored on Cannarella's third double of the night two batters later to break the tie. After a Taylor walk, Cannarella scored on a Graham Pauley single. Taylor trotted home on Alderman's second RBI single, making it 10-7.

Stephen Jones (SV, 6) locked down the save in the ninth, allowing a run on a Baddoo double and Murray sacrifice fly before inducing a game-ending groundout from Ramón Rodríguez.

Cannarella's third double of the night — a go-ahead knock in the seventh off Rodriguez — swung the game for good. The Jumbo Shrimp had squandered a 6-1 lead and seen Nashville tie it twice. Cannarella's extra-base hit in the seventh turned the momentum back, and Jacksonville's bullpen made it hold.

Cam Cannarella (JAX) — Three doubles, two runs scored, one RBI. Extended his on-base streak to 26 games, tied for the sixth-longest streak in recorded Jacksonville baseball history dating back to 2005. Player of the match.

Brendan Jones (JAX) — First career Triple-A home run: a three-run blast in the fifth that capped a four-run frame and gave Jacksonville a 6-1 lead at the time. Also reached base twice.

Kemp Alderman (JAX) — Two RBI singles: one in the sixth to regain the lead and another in the seventh as part of the three-run rally.

Blake Burke (NAS) — Solo homer in the first, walked and scored in Nashville's five-run sixth.

Jeferson Quero (NAS) — Game-tying three-run homer in the sixth, his 13th of the season.

Akil Baddoo (NAS) — Two-run single in the sixth, scored in the seventh and doubled in the ninth.

Jacksonville's 16 hits to Nashville's seven tell the story: the Jumbo Shrimp consistently put the ball in play and manufactured runs through doubles (Cannarella alone hit three) and clutch two-out hitting. The Sounds, by contrast, relied on the long ball (Burke's solo shot, Quero's three-run blast) and walks (Nashville drew six free passes). Each side committed one error, but Jacksonville's came at a less damaging moment. The Jumbo Shrimp's .500 batting average with runners in scoring position (roughly 8-for-16 based on the game flow) was the decisive edge.

The win snapped a brief skid for Jacksonville and improved their second-half record to 23-30, keeping them within striking distance in the International League East behind Durham (29-19). Nashville slipped to 26-27 in the second half, now 6.5 games behind West-leading Indianapolis (30-19). With 17 games remaining in the regular season, every result carries weight for Nashville's playoff hopes.

Jacksonville's depth at the plate proved the difference: every position player contributed, and their 16-hit attack was too much for a Nashville bullpen that could not limit the damage in the decisive seventh.
