Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp vs Nashville Sounds

Nashville opened the scoring in the second inning off Blalock. Jacob Hurtubise and Daniel Guilarte reached base, and Lockridge lined a double to centre, plating both runners for a 2–0 lead. The Sounds added a run in the third on a Bo Naylor RBI double to make it 3–0.

Jacksonville answered in the bottom of the third with a run to cut the deficit to 3–1. In the fourth, Jared Serna crushed a two-run home run off Nashville starter Brandon Sproat — his 11th of the season — scoring Gage Miller to pull the Jumbo Shrimp within 4–3.

Brock Wilken led off the fifth with a solo home run (his 15th) off reliever to restore Nashville's two-run lead at 5–3. The Jumbo Shrimp answered with a run in the seventh to make it 5–4.

The decisive moment came in the eighth inning. Lockridge stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and ripped a sharp double to left field, clearing the bases and extending Nashville's lead to 8–4. The three-run burst — aided by two walks and a hit batter — gave the Sounds breathing room. Garrett Stallings, Gerson Garabito and Blake Holub combined for 4.0 innings of relief behind Kuhnel, allowing just two earned runs.

• Brandon Lockridge (Nashville): 3-for-5, two doubles, five RBIs. Lockridge drove in more than half of Nashville's runs. His two-run double in the second opened the scoring and his bases-clearing double in the eighth sealed the win. Player of the match.
• Jared Serna (Jacksonville): Homered twice (fourth and ninth innings), driving in three of Jacksonville's five runs. The multi-homer game was his first of the season.
• Brandon Sproat (Nashville): 4.0 IP, 1 H, 3 R (2 ER), 3 BB, 7 K. The right-hander limited Jacksonville to one hit while striking out seven but was lifted after 75 pitches.
• Brock Wilken (Nashville): 2-for-4, solo home run (15th), two RBIs, one walk. Provided insurance with a leadoff homer in the fifth.

The 14–5 hit disparity tells the story: Nashville strung together consistent contact while Jacksonville managed only five hits — Serna's two homers plus a Jonathon Long double and singles from Brendan Jones and Maximo Acosta. Nashville committed three errors (Guilarte fielding, Sproat pickoff, Adams fielding) that kept Jacksonville alive, making two of the Jumbo Shrimp's five runs unearned. The Sounds bullpen combined for 5.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

Lockridge produced five RBIs on just three hits — all extra-base hits — accounting for 62.5% of Nashville's run production. Serna became the first Jacksonville player with a multi-homer game since Bennett Hostetler on August 23.

Nashville improved to 70–59 (27–26 second half), good for seventh in the International League standings. Jacksonville dropped to 65–63 (22–31) in 14th place. The six-game series continues Saturday, August 29 at 6:35 PM ET at VyStar Ballpark, with Jacksonville right-hander Karson Milbrandt (0–6, 8.67) scheduled to start opposite Nashville righty Tyson Hardin (3–4, 4.88). The series concludes Sunday, August 30 at 2:05 PM ET.

Lockridge's five-RBI day and a 14-hit attack gave Nashville a comfortable win despite Serna's two solo blasts. For the Jumbo Shrimp, the lack of hitting depth — just five hits across nine innings — is a recurring issue in a second half where they have lost 31 of 53 games. For the Sounds, the collective approach up and down the lineup continues to drive their push toward the postseason.
