St. Paul vs Toledo Mud Hens

The Saints struck first. Aaron Sabato launched his 22nd home run of the season off Mud Hens starter Sawyer Gipson-Long in the bottom of the first, a solo shot to give St. Paul a 1-0 lead.

Toledo answered in the top of the fourth. Aaron Rozek (L, 3-5), making his 18th start, laboured through 3.2 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits with four walks. After Rozek departed with two on and one out, reliever Paulshawn Pasqualotto entered and surrendered Jung's grand slam — a drive to right-centre for his 20th home run of 2026 — flipping a 2-0 deficit into a 5-2 Toledo lead.

The Mud Hens kept rolling in the fifth, scoring five more runs on five hits. Seby Zavala drove in two with a double, and Max Burt added an RBI single. By the inning's end, Toledo led 10-3.

St. Paul's offence showed fight. Kala'i Rosario hit two solo home runs — one in the fourth off Gipson-Long and another in the seventh off Hayden Minton — and added a double for a three-hit day. Cody Morissette also went deep in the seventh off Minton, a solo shot to left. But the Saints stranded 11 runners and went just 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position.

The game swung decisively in the top of the fourth. After Rozek walked two batters and allowed a double, Pasqualotto came on in relief. He struck out the first batter he faced, then left a 2-1 fastball over the plate that Jung crushed into the right-field bleachers. Jung's slam turned a tight 2-0 game into a 5-2 Mud Hens lead, and Toledo never looked back.

Jace Jung (Toledo): 1-for-5, grand slam (20th HR), 5 RBI. His single swing accounted for five of Toledo's ten runs. The Tigers' infield prospect now has 69 RBIs on the season.

Kala'i Rosario (St. Paul): 3-for-5, 2 HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R. The designated hitter carried the Saints' offence nearly single-handedly.

Seby Zavala (Toledo): 3-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R. The veteran catcher delivered three hits from the No. 6 spot.

Max Burt (Toledo): 2-for-3, 2B, 2 BB, 2 SB, RBI, 2 R. Reached base four times and swiped two bags.

Player of the Match: Jace Jung — Five RBIs in one swing is a game-changer at any level.

St. Paul out-hit Toledo 13-11 and hit four home runs to Toledo's one, yet lost by four runs. The difference was efficiency. Toledo drew nine walks against St. Paul's three, and went 5-for-14 with runners in scoring position compared to St. Paul's 2-for-17. Toledo's lone home run — Jung's grand slam — produced four runs; St. Paul's four solo shots produced only four runs. The Saints' 11 runners left on base tell the story of missed opportunities.

Toledo improves to 62-69. St. Paul drops to 74-57, still comfortably above .500 but letting a winnable series slip. The two teams meet Monday for the series finale at CHS Field (first pitch 2:07 p.m. ET).

A game of two halves: Toledo capitalised on every opportunity while St. Paul stranded runners and wasted solo homers. Jung's grand slam was the clear difference-maker in a contest that was closer than the final score suggests.
