Milwaukee Brewers vs Atlanta Braves

Atlanta struck first in the top of the second. Ozzie Albies led off with a single and scored on Mauricio Dubon's ground-rule double that bounced over the right-field fence for a 1-0 lead. Brewers starter Shane Drohan escaped a bases-loaded jam to keep it a one-run game.

A defensive miscue extended the lead in the sixth. Grant Anderson, who replaced Drohan, walked Dubon with one out. Dubon advanced to third on Austin Riley's single and scored when Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn bobbled a ground ball, making it 3-1.

Milwaukee cut the deficit to one in the eighth. Luis Lara — who had replaced the injured Garrett Mitchell after Mitchell was hit by a pitch — tripled to right field to score Christian Yelich, trimming the Braves' lead to 3-2. But Raisel Iglesias entered and got Gary Sanchez to pop out to end the inning.

Harris answered immediately in the top of the ninth, hammering a 380-foot solo home run off Aaron Ashby over the right-field fence — his 21st of the year — to restore the two-run cushion at 4-2.

The game ended on a sequence that would make any Little League coach proud: a defensive double play. With the tying run on first base in the bottom of the ninth, Jake Bauers checked his swing and the ball dribbled back to Iglesias. The Braves closer turned, threw to second for the force out, and Mauricio Dubon's quick relay to first beat Bauers by a step to seal the win. It was Iglesias' 27th save of the season, a four-out effort.

Michael Harris II (Braves): 2-for-4 with a solo home run (21st of the season), scoring the decisive insurance run in the ninth. He delivered immediately after the Brewers had pulled within a run.

Tyler Mahle (Braves): Won his 10th game of the season, holding the Brewers to one run on six hits and two walks over five innings with four strikeouts. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second with a Ronald Acuña Jr. sliding catch to end the threat.

Raisel Iglesias (Braves): Recorded a four-out save (27th of the season), striking out the side in the eighth before the game-ending double play in the ninth.

Luis Lara (Brewers): Coming in as a substitute for the injured Garrett Mitchell, Lara tripled to drive in the Brewers' second run and spark their late rally.

Player of the match: Michael Harris II — his timely home run and consistent presence at the plate proved the difference.

Both teams finished with 11 hits, but the Braves made theirs count at critical moments. Atlanta went 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position; Milwaukee went 2-for-12. The Brewers out-hit the Braves in quality early on — six hits off Mahle through five innings — but left nine men on base to Atlanta's seven. The single error by Vaughn at first base in the sixth proved costly, directly allowing an unearned run that proved the margin of victory. Harris' home run in the ninth, coming on an 0-1 pitch from Ashby, had an exit velocity of 104 mph and a 380-foot distance — the hardest-hit ball of the night.

The Braves (76-55) remain atop the NL East, one of five National League teams above .750 winning percentage. The Brewers (81-50) still hold the best record in the National League despite the loss; they lead the NL Central by a comfortable margin. Both teams will be watching Garrett Mitchell's status closely — his exit after being hit by a pitch could affect Milwaukee's outfield depth heading into the final month.
