Chicago White Sox vs Texas Rangers

The White Sox struck first in the second inning. Braden Montgomery doubled home Chase Meidroth, then scored on Doyle's RBI single for a 2–0 lead.

Texas answered in the third when Joc Pederson crushed a two-run homer off White Sox starter Sean Burke, tying the game at 2–2. Burke laboured through three-plus innings, walking a career-worst eight batters while throwing only 46 of 92 pitches for strikes.

Sean Newcomb (2–3) entered with two on and one out in the fourth and needed just eight pitches to escape the jam. The White Sox rewarded him immediately.

In the bottom of the fourth, Miguel Vargas delivered a go-ahead RBI single. Pinch-hitter Sam Antonacci followed with an RBI single of his own, making it 4–2 and ending MacKenzie Gore's night at 3⅔ innings.

Peters provided the exclamation point in the fifth. Facing left-handed reliever Robby Ahlstrom, he turned on an 0–1 slider and launched it over the right-field wall for a two-run blast — his first career homer off a southpaw — stretching the lead to 6–2.

Doyle put the game out of reach in the sixth. With two outs and the count full, he lifted a changeup to left-centre for a three-run homer, capping a four-run frame that made it 10–2.

Ezequiel Duran answered with a two-run single for Texas in the seventh, but Jonathan Cannon shut the door, striking out four over three innings for his first save since 2024.

Newcomb's Houdini act in the fourth inning flipped momentum decisively. After Burke walked his seventh and eighth batters of the night, Newcomb entered, foiled a sacrifice bunt attempt and coaxed two harmless outs on eight pitches. The White Sox scored twice in the bottom half and never trailed again.

Homered in his fifth straight game, tying the franchise record (previously shared by seven players, including teammate Munetaka Murakami earlier this season). Per Elias Sports, Peters and Murakami are the first pair of rookies in MLB history on the same team to each have a five-game homer streak in a single season. Over his last 18 games (since Aug. 8), Peters is slashing .400/.483/.880 with six homers and 14 RBIs.

• Brenton Doyle, CF, White Sox — 2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI, R. His three-run homer in the sixth effectively ended the game.

• Sean Newcomb, RP, White Sox — W (2-3), 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Extended his scoreless streak to 17⅓ innings.

• Sam Antonacci, PH/DH, White Sox — 2-for-3, 2 RBI. Delivered two clutch RBI singles as a mid-game replacement.

Player of the Match: Tristan Peters for the historic fifth consecutive home run game and three-hit night.

The White Sox out-hit Texas 15–8, but the game was closer than the final score suggests before the sixth-inning explosion. Chicago went 4-for-12 with runners in scoring position, while Texas went 2-for-14 and left 12 runners stranded — 33 over the three-game series. The eight walks issued by Burke were the most by a White Sox starter this season, offset only by the bullpen's three scoreless innings and timely outs. Peters' 1.332 OPS over his last 18 games underscores a historic hot streak, not just a power surge.

The win improved the White Sox to 70–63, maintaining a 2½-game lead over Cleveland in the American League Central. Chicago tied the mark for most wins by a team following three consecutive 100-loss seasons (previously set by the 2014 Astros), with 29 games remaining.

The Rangers (69–64) fell a half-game behind Houston in the AL West after the Astros lost earlier Wednesday. Texas has lost 12 of its last 15 road games and dropped six consecutive road series for the first time since 2021.

Next up: The White Sox travel to Minnesota to face the Twins on Friday (RHP Luis Castillo vs. RHP Dean Kremer). The Rangers open a three-game set in Milwaukee on Friday (LHP Cody Bradford vs. RHP Logan Henderson).

Peters' historic homer streak is the headline, but this was a bullpen win built on Newcomb's escape artistry and Cannon's three-inning save. The White Sox offence has scored double-digit runs in consecutive games for the first time this season, and with a 2½-game lead in the AL Central, Chicago is treating every series like a playoff eliminator.
