Milwaukee Brewers vs Texas Rangers

Milwaukee struck first against Rangers starter Cody Bradford in the opening frame. Brice Turang reached on a throwing error by Bradford, moved to third on a Jackson Chourio flyout, and scored on a Contreras groundout. Christian Yelich followed with an RBI double to deep left-centre, scoring Jake Bauers to make it 2-0.

Texas answered in the third when catcher Danny Jansen crushed a solo home run to left field, his fifth of the season, cutting the lead in half at 2-1. That was the only blemish on Henderson's night — and the only run the Rangers would score all evening.

Henderson retired 13 of the final 15 batters he faced, working efficiently through the Texas order. He struck out seven, walked none, and threw 63 of 91 pitches for strikes.

Milwaukee added insurance in the sixth. Garrett Mitchell reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a Sal Frelick walk, and scored on a David Hamilton single to centre, chasing Bradford from the game.

The Brewers tacked on another run in the seventh when Contreras singled home Bauers, who had walked. They put the game away in the eighth with two more runs: a Jackson Chourio single scored Frelick, and Contreras added a sacrifice fly to plate Hamilton.

The top of the sixth inning never happened — at least not for Texas. Henderson set down the Rangers in order on nine pitches (groundout, flyout, strikeout), preserving the 2-1 lead and handing momentum back to the Brewers offence, which immediately extended the lead in the bottom half. From that point, Texas managed one hit over the final four innings.

Logan Henderson (MIL) — Winning pitcher (14-5). 7.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 91 pitches. His seventh quality start in his last nine outings.

William Contreras (MIL) — 2-for-4, BB, 3 RBI. Drove in runs via groundout (1st), single (7th) and sacrifice fly (8th).

Jake Bauers (MIL) — 2-for-2, 3 BB, 2 R, SB (10). Reached base in all five plate appearances.

Danny Jansen (TEX) — 1-for-3, HR (5), RBI. Accounted for the Rangers' only run and one of their two hits.

Milwaukee out-hit Texas 14-2, a 12-hit gap that reflects Henderson's complete control and the Rangers' inability to square him up after Jansen's solo shot. The Brewers went 5-for-12 with runners in scoring position, spreading production across seven different players. No Ranger reached second base after the third inning.

Texas' lone error — Bradford's first-inning throwing error on Turang's leadoff single — proved costly, turning a potential scoreless first into two unearned runs that forced the Rangers to chase from behind all night.

The under 7.5 hit (7 total runs), and the Brewers -219 moneyline cashed as Milwaukee never trailed.

Milwaukee improved to an MLB-best 84-51, extending their NL Central lead. The Brewers have won 11 of their last 14 since 15 August and continue to get elite production from a young starting rotation.

Texas dropped to 66-69, falling further back in the AL West. The Rangers have lost six of their last eight and managed two or fewer hits for the seventh time this season.

The two teams meet again Saturday 29 August at 6:15 PM ET at American Family Field.

A textbook Brewers win: dominant starting pitching, timely hitting and a bullpen that closed the door without drama. Henderson made the Rangers lineup look ordinary, and Milwaukee's offence rewarded him with steady run support. The gap between a pennant contender and a team playing out the string was on full display.
