Atlanta Braves vs Colorado Rockies

The Braves struck first in the bottom of the second. Acuña Jr. walked and came around to score, and Atlanta plated three runs off Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano (12–8). They added another in the third when Acuña Jr. singled and scored again, making it 4–0.

Colorado answered in the fifth. A three-run rally fuelled entirely by singles cut the deficit to 4–3 and ended the night for Braves starter Grant Holmes (9–5) after five innings. Holmes allowed three runs on eight hits — all singles — with three strikeouts and one walk.

Atlanta punched back immediately in the home half. Sugano was pulled after opening the fifth by surrendering three consecutive hits, the last a two-run homer by Harris that restored a three-run lead at 6–3. Acuña Jr. had doubled ahead of the blast, scoring for the third time.

The Rockies chipped a run back in the seventh when Jake McCarthy drove in a run via sacrifice fly, but Atlanta's bullpen held firm. Raisel Iglesias worked a nervy ninth — Hunter Goodman led off with an infield single — before TJ Rumfield grounded into a game-ending double play. Iglesias earned his 29th save.

Sugano's inability to record an out in the fifth was decisive. Through four innings he had kept the Rockies within range, but after allowing three straight hits to open the fifth — capped by Harris's 22nd homer of the season — the game swung decisively back to Atlanta. Sugano finished with six earned runs on 10 hits in four-plus innings, pushing his ERA to 5.23.

Michael Harris II, CF, Braves — Player of the Match. 2-for-3 with a double, his 22nd homer, three RBI and two runs scored. His fifth-inning blast was the decisive blow.

Ronald Acuña Jr., RF, Braves — Batting cleanup for the first time this season after manager Walt Weiss said he had a good talk with him on Thursday. Acuña Jr. responded with three hits (single, double, walk), three runs and an aggressive presence on the bases.

Grant Holmes, RHP, Braves — 5 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Effective enough to earn his ninth win while limiting damage despite allowing eight singles.

Hunter Goodman, C, Rockies — 3-for-5 with an RBI. The lone Colorado hitter with multiple hits off Atlanta pitching.

The Braves out-hit the Rockies 14–12, but the gap in damage was concentrated. Atlanta's 14 hits produced six runs (one homer, two doubles); Colorado's 12 hits — all singles — produced only four runs and required a rally in the fifth and a single run in the seventh. The Rockies went without an extra-base hit, underscoring the absence of power that has plagued the lineup all season (167 team home runs, bottom-third in the NL).

The Braves (80–55) have won five straight and hold a 5.5-game lead atop the NL East over the second-place Phillies (74–60). At home, Atlanta is 46–23, tied for the best home record in the National League. The Rockies (52–83) remain anchored to the bottom of the NL West, 29 games back of the division-leading Dodgers.

Before the game, Atlanta announced that right-handers Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep will undergo season-ending elbow surgeries — a significant blow to rotation depth that underscores the importance of the bullpen down the stretch.

Atlanta did what contending teams do — punished a starter who lost command, then handed a lead to a bullpen that closed the door. The Rockies, despite matching the Braves in total hits (12–14), lacked the one swing to change the game. That gap in game-changing power was the story of the night.
