San Francisco Giants vs Arizona Diamondbacks

Nootbaar opened the scoring in the first inning, launching a solo home run to centre field off Giants rookie Blade Tidwell (0-1). San Francisco answered immediately in the bottom half when Bryce Eldridge (14th HR) crushed a solo shot off Kohl Drake to tie it 1-1.

The Giants took a 2-1 lead in the second on a Turner Hill sacrifice fly that scored Jung Hoo Lee, but Arizona broke the game open in the third. After Nootbaar doubled, Carroll crushed a two-run homer to centre to put Arizona up 3-2. Geraldo Perdomo singled, Nolan Arenado doubled, and Tawa followed with a three-run blast to left — a five-run inning that made it 6-2.

San Francisco chipped away. Eldridge doubled home Rafael Devers in the third (6-3), and Christian Koss hit a two-run homer in the fourth to cut the lead to 6-5. But Arizona pulled away again in the sixth against reliever Spencer Bivens. Tawa singled, James McCann doubled, and Ildemaro Vargas singled both home. Carroll added a sacrifice fly to make it 9-5.

Perdomo scored on a McCann single in the seventh to push the lead to 10-5. San Francisco got an unearned run in the eighth on a throwing error by reliever Dennis Santana, but Arizona's bullpen held firm.

Tawa's three-run homer in the third inning. With two outs and Arenado and Perdomo on base, Tawa turned on a Tidwell fastball and sent it over the left-field wall. The blast turned a one-run Arizona lead into a four-run cushion and forced the Giants into chasing from a multi-run deficit the rest of the night.

Tim Tawa (ARI): 2-for-5, HR (9th), 3 RBI, 2 R. His third-inning three-run homer was the biggest swing of the night.

Lars Nootbaar (ARI): 3-for-4, HR (5th with ARI), 2B, RBI, 2 R. Led off the game with a homer and added a double to ignite the five-run third.

Corbin Carroll (ARI): 1-for-3, HR (19th), 3 RBI, BB, sac fly. Now at 61 RBI for the season.

Bryce Eldridge (SF): 2-for-5, HR (15th), 2B, 2 RBI. The Giants' standout on offence.

Gerardo Carrillo (ARI): W (3-1), 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K. Entered with the score 6-5 and stranded two runners, settling the game at a critical juncture.

Arizona out-hit San Francisco 12-5, but the gap is starker by slugging — five hits cleared the fence (Nootbaar, Carroll, Tawa for ARI; Eldridge, Koss for SF), accounting for 8 of Arizona's 10 runs. The Diamondbacks went 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position while San Francisco managed just 1-for-4. Kohl Drake lasted only four innings (4 IP, 4 H, 5 ER), but Arizona's bullpen of Carrillo, Jonathan Loáisiga, Brandyn Garcia and Juan Morillo combined for 5.0 innings of 1-run relief. Blade Tidwell (5 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 3 HR) was tagged in his start.

Arizona (72-64) stays seventh in the National League standings, 11 games behind the NL West-leading Dodgers (80-53). The win keeps their Wild Card hopes alive. San Francisco (55-80) sits 14th in the NL, 26.5 games off the pace. The D-backs improved to 29-21 in 50 all-time meetings against the Giants (per Betmana H2H records).

Arizona's power display was decisive — five homers, three in a single inning, overwhelmed a Giants pitching staff that couldn't keep the ball in the yard. Tidwell's first career start was rough (5 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 3 HR). When the D-backs' lineup connects for multiple homers, they are a dangerous offensive club, and against a Giants team languishing near the bottom of the NL standings, they were clinical.
