The box score tells a curious story: Chicago scored three runs on three hits, while Minnesota had five hits and managed only two runs. The White Sox made their hits count — Benintendi's double drove in a run, his homer won the game, and his single in the fourth led to an unearned run via error. The Twins, by contrast, left five runners on base and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position after the second inning.

Fedde's 88 pitches over five innings (17.6 per frame) kept the White Sox bullpen fresh, and Newcomb's three-inning stint — the longest relief outing of his season — was the bridge that got Chicago to Hudson. This was a textbook example of a team finding different ways to win. Benintendi essentially beat the Twins by himself, Fedde kept Chicago in it long enough for the bats to strike, and Newcomb and Hudson shut the door. For Minnesota, the margin between competing and losing is razor-thin — good pitching goes to waste when the offense can't deliver a timely hit.
