Milwaukee Brewers vs Texas Rangers

Milwaukee added to the lead in the second. Christian Yelich singled and advanced on a groundout, then came home on Luis Lara's single to centre. Yelich was tagged out trying to take second, but the damage was done: 3-0 Brewers after two frames.

Texas got on the board in the fifth when rookie third baseman Cody Freeman crushed his first major-league home run, a solo shot off Drohan to centre field that cut the deficit to 3-1.

Drohan (5.0 IP, 1 ER, 6 K, 99 pitches) allowed just three hits and walked one while striking out six. Connor Patrick replaced him to start the sixth and kept the Rangers scoreless that inning.

Milwaukee broke the game open in the seventh against Rangers reliever Phil Gray. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Lara delivered his second RBI single of the night, plating Contreras for a 4-1 lead. Cooper Pratt followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Garrett Mitchell to push the margin to 5-1.

Texas answered in the eighth. Brandon Nimmo, facing Patrick, crushed a two-run homer to centre — his 14th of the season — scoring Corey Seager and cutting the lead to 5-3. Antonio Senzatela came on and recorded the final two outs of the inning.

Trevor Megill worked a perfect ninth, needing only seven pitches, to nail down his team-leading 25th save.

Lara's bases-loaded single in the seventh off Gray was the decisive blow. Quantrill had kept Texas within striking distance after the early damage, but once the Brewers stacked the bases with nobody out in the seventh, the Rangers' bullpen could not escape without damage. That sequence turned a tense 3-1 game into a 5-1 cushion the Rangers could not fully overcome.

• William Contreras (MIL) — 2-for-3, HR (13), 2 R, RBI, BB. Reached base three times and scored twice. His leadoff double in the seventh set the table for the Brewers' two-run outburst.
• Brandon Nimmo (TEX) — 3-for-4, HR (14), 2 RBI, SB (7). The Rangers' offensive standout was a triple shy of the cycle and provided the only real threat with his eighth-inning homer.
• Shane Drohan (MIL) — 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. Earned his eighth win of the season by keeping Texas off balance through five efficient innings.
• Luis Lara (MIL) — 2-for-3, 2 RBI. Both hits brought home runs, including the critical seventh-inning single.

Texas out-hit Milwaukee 8-7 but left five runners on base to Milwaukee's six. The Brewers went 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position, while Texas managed just 1-for-5. The key disparity came in the seventh: Milwaukee loaded the bases with no outs against Gray and cashed in with two runs, putting the game out of reach before Nimmo's late solo shot. Quantrill (6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 K) was solid after a rocky start, but the Brewers' early power surge gave Milwaukee a lead it never relinquished.

The Brewers improved to 85-51, extending their MLB-best record and strengthening their grip on the National League Central. Texas dropped to 66-70, further fading from wild-card contention in the American League. The series concludes Sunday afternoon at American Family Field, with Milwaukee sending right-hander Aaron Civale (8-7, 3.89 ERA) to the mound against Texas left-hander Andrew Heaney (7-10, 4.47 ERA).

The Brewers' early power display and timely hitting with runners on base proved the difference. Quantrill kept Texas in the game after the first-inning homers, but Milwaukee's bullpen held a Rangers offence that has now lost four of five.
