Tacoma Rainiers vs Reno Aces

Fulmer set the tone immediately, working five innings of one-run ball while stranding runners in scoring position in the first and third innings. He retired seven straight from the final out of the third through perfect fourth and fifth frames.

Tacoma broke through in the bottom of the third. Spencer Packard led off with a single and moved to second on a Nick Raposo single. Both advanced on a wild pitch, and Miles Mastrobuoni reached on a throwing error to load the bases with one out. Ryan Bliss punched a two-run single into left field, scoring Packard and Raposo for a 2-0 lead. Michael Arroyo followed with a single to shallow centre, plating Mastrobuoni to make it 3-0.

Connor Joe (7) crushed the first pitch of the bottom of the sixth into the left-field bleachers — his second home run in as many games and his sixth against Reno this season — extending the lead to 4-1. Two batters later, Victor Labrada laid down a bunt single, stole second, and scored on Mastrobuoni's double to left to make it 5-1.

Reno's lone run came in the top of the sixth. Demetrio Crisantes led off with a triple, LuJames Groover walked, and Manuel Pena lined an RBI single to right, scoring Crisantes to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Aces loaded the bases later in the frame but a strikeout and groundout ended the threat.

Peyton Alford closed it out with a perfect ninth inning on his 29th birthday, striking out one.

Fulmer's ability to escape early traffic kept Reno scoreless while the Rainiers offence found its rhythm. After stranding two Aces in scoring position across the first three innings, Tacoma rewarded him with a three-run third that gave Fulmer all the support he needed.

• Carson Fulmer (W, 5-0 in his last five starts): 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 2 BB. His five consecutive wins without a loss are tied for the second-longest streak in the PCL this season, and his five victories since July 1 are the most in the league.
• Miles Mastrobuoni: 3-for-4, 2 doubles (tying his career-high), 1 RBI, 1 run. His second three-hit game of the season.
• Connor Joe: 1-for-4, solo home run (7th of season, 2nd in as many games). Six of his seven homers this year have come against Reno — the most by any opposing player against the Aces.
• Peyton Alford: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K — a perfect ninth on his birthday. The first Rainiers pitcher to pitch on his birthday this season.

Tacoma's 10 hits — only three for extra bases — show a lineup that manufactured runs through timely singles and aggressive baserunning rather than relying on the long ball alone. Bliss's two-run single and Arroyo's RBI knock in the third came with two outs, underscoring Tacoma's efficiency in clutch spots. Reno's nine hits (the Aces produced near double-digit hits) but only one run tells the story of missed opportunities: the Aces left multiple runners in scoring position, including loading the bases in the sixth and coming away empty.

The series win improves Tacoma to 20-24 in the PCL's second-half standings. Reno falls to 21-23. Both teams sit at 53-66 overall, but Tacoma has the momentum with eight wins in its last 10 games. The Rainiers will look for a sweep in the series finale on Sunday (1:35 PM PT) with RHP Nolan Kingham making his first start for Tacoma. Reno has not named a starter.

Tacoma's pitching was the difference — Fulmer set the stage and Alford closed it out. When a starter hasn't lost in five outings and the bullpen slams the door, the Rainiers are a tough out in the PCL. Reno's inability to convert base runners into runs cost them a series they could have stolen.
