Reno Aces vs Sacramento River Cats

Sacramento struck immediately against Reno starter Bryce Jarvis. Scott Bandura led off with a single, stole third after a Parks Harber walk, and scored on a Will Brennan RBI groundout. Leonard followed with a sharp line-drive single to centre, plating Harber for a 2-0 lead before Reno recorded an out.

The River Cats added another in the second. Aeverson Arteaga doubled and scored on Harber's single, knocking Jarvis from the game after just 1.1 innings. The right-hander took the loss (2-4), charged with three earned runs on four hits and two walks.

Reno's only sustained threat came in the third, when Santiago Espinal doubled and reached third on a throwing error by catcher Adrián Sugastey, but Lourdes Gurriel Jr. grounded out to end the inning.

The fourth inning broke the game open. Leading 3-0, the River Cats loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Landon Sims relieved Jonatan Bernal with the bases loaded and one out, and a passed ball by catcher Christian Cerda scored Arteaga. Leonard then ripped a bases-clearing double to right field, scoring Bandura, Brennan and Diego Velasquez. Adrián Sugastey followed with an RBI double, and Thomas Gavello singled before the inning ended. When the dust settled, Sacramento had plated five runs on five hits, stretching the lead to 8-0.

Pavin Smith answered immediately for Reno, leading off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to right-centre off Ramos — his fourth of the season. But the Aces never got closer.

Sacramento tacked on two more in the fifth on a Brennan two-run single, and added single runs in the seventh and eighth via a Harber sacrifice fly and a Gavello sacrifice fly.

Eddys Leonard (SAC) — Player of the Match The River Cats’ DH went 2-for-2 with a double, four RBI and three walks, reaching base in all five plate appearances. His bases-clearing double in the fourth was the decisive blow, and his two-out RBI single in the first set the early tone. Leonard’s .883 OPS in 11 Triple-A games this season underscores the impact he’s made since his call-up.

Scott Bandura (SAC) The centre fielder went 4-for-5 with a triple, a walk, four runs scored and a stolen base. He reached safely in all six plate appearances from the leadoff spot, setting the table repeatedly for the middle of the order. Bandura is now hitting .329 with an .897 OPS on the season.

Will Brennan (SAC) The right fielder drove in three runs on two hits, including a two-run single in the fifth that extended the lead to 10-1. Brennan is batting .315 with 49 RBI this season.

Santiago Espinal (RNO) The Aces’ shortstop was the lone bright spot for Reno, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI single in the sixth that scored A.J. Vukovich.

Cristian Alvarado (SAC) The River Cats’ reliever earned his second save with three scoreless innings, scattering two hits with two strikeouts. It was his longest outing of 2026.

The 15-hit, 10-walk night was a clinic in offensive pressure. Sacramento went 7-for-20 with runners in scoring position, while Reno managed just 1-for-7. The River Cats left 11 men on base — a sign that even more damage was possible.

Reno used seven pitchers, none of whom escaped cleanly. The Aces’ staff combined for a 12.00 ERA (12 earned runs in nine innings). Bernal was charged with three runs in 2.1 innings, Sims allowed two inherited runners to score without recording an out, and Strowd surrendered two runs on one hit and three walks in his single inning. Only position player Anderdson Rojas — who shifted from centre field to the mound in the ninth — threw a scoreless frame.

Defensively, both teams were sloppy. The River Cats committed two errors (Sugastey throw, Velasquez fielding) and Reno one (Vukovich fielding), while Cerda was charged with a passed ball.

The 4,326 fans at Greater Nevada Field watched a game that lasted 2 hours 50 minutes, with first pitch at 6:39 PM PT under a partly cloudy 84°F sky.

The River Cats improved their season record to 71-52 and remain firmly in the Pacific Coast League playoff picture with roughly three weeks remaining. Reno dropped to 55-70, 16 games under .500, as they continue a rebuilding season at the Triple-A level.

The teams continue their six-game series at Greater Nevada Field on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM PT.

Sacramento’s offence was relentless from the first pitch, generating traffic on the bases and capitalising on every Reno mistake. Ramos stabilised the game in long relief, and Alvarado’s efficient three-inning save sealed a convincing win. For Reno, the gulf between a contending club and one playing out the string was plain to see.
