Tacoma Rainiers vs Salt Lake Bees

The momentum permanently shifted when Tacoma manager called for Criswell to begin the fifth. Díaz had been pulled after four innings and 75 pitches, having allowed eight hits and five earned runs. What followed was a bullpen masterclass: Criswell, Eduarniel Garcia, Dauris Gonzalez and Shuman combined for five innings of one-hit, shutout relief with eight strikeouts and zero walks.

Criswell struck out the side in the fifth. Garcia (2 IP, 4 K) and Gonzalez (1 IP) handled the sixth through eighth. Shuman needed just 11 pitches for a 1-2-3 ninth.

Meanwhile, Hurtado (0-2) struggled with command throughout his five-inning start: six hits, six earned runs, six walks and two home runs allowed on 92 pitches.

Fairchild broke the 5-5 deadlock in the fifth, doubling sharply off the left-field wall to score Joe, who had reached on a leadoff single — his third hit of the night. Tacoma added two more insurance runs: Michael Arroyo singled home Nolan Jones in the seventh, and Joe singled home Arroyo in the eighth.

Stuart Fairchild (Tacoma) — 2-for-3, HR (5), 2B (7), 3 RBI, 1 R. Game-tying homer in the third and the go-ahead RBI double in the fifth. All three of his RBI came with two outs, and his .325/.413/.666 slash line leads the Rainiers' regulars in OPS (1.079).

Connor Joe (Tacoma) — 1-for-1, 3 R, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 1 SAC. Reached base in all four plate appearances and scored three of Tacoma's eight runs. Drew three walks and dropped a sacrifice bunt in the eighth.

Nick Raposo (Tacoma) — 1-for-4, HR (4), 3 RBI. His three-run homer in the second inning immediately erased Salt Lake's 3-0 lead and represented the single highest win-probability swing of the game (+26.3%), per MLB Gameday.

Jeimer Candelario (Salt Lake) — 3-for-4, HR (13), 2 RBI, 2 R. The only Bee with multiple hits. His two-run homer in the third briefly put Salt Lake back in front.

Tacoma Bullpen — 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K. Season-best relief outing. Salt Lake did not record a hit after the fourth inning until a two-out single by Rivero in the eighth.

The box score shows both teams with nine hits, but the distribution tells the story. Salt Lake's nine hits were concentrated in the second and third innings (seven of nine), while Tacoma's bullpen held them hitless across the fifth, sixth and seventh. Tacoma drew seven walks against Salt Lake pitching, led by Joe's three and Mastrobuoni's two, while the Rainiers' staff issued none. Tacoma struck out 14 Bees while striking out nine times themselves. Two of Tacoma's three extra-base hits were home runs; Salt Lake managed one extra-base hit after the third inning.

The Rainiers extended their winning streak to four games. Salt Lake dropped to 0-9 against Tacoma in the 2026 season series, per MiLB records. The same two teams meet again Wednesday at Cheney Stadium for game two of the six-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM PT.
