Oklahoma City Dodgers vs El Paso Chihuahuas

Oklahoma City Comets (31–24 second half, 72–57 overall) — OKC entered this series on a 15–3 surge from 29 July to 18 August but has cooled since, going 4–6 in their last 10 games before Friday. Four of those six losses came by a single run. The Comets lead the PCL in run differential (+77) despite a middling .564 second-half win percentage. Their pitching has been the story: 11 shutout wins this season, the most by the franchise since 2016 and the most in the PCL since Round Rock's 12 in 2019. Christian Romero and Bobby Miller combined for OKC's sixth shutout of August alone in Wednesday's Game 2 win.

El Paso Chihuahuas (18–37 second half, 53–77 overall) — The Chihuahuas sit last in the PCL East with a -110 run differential, the worst in the league. Their 18 second-half wins are the fewest in the division. The pitching has allowed 399 runs in 55 second-half games (7.25 per game). Still, El Paso arrived in Oklahoma City and won three of the first four games of this series, including two one-run victories.

The teams have met 50 times since 2023. Oklahoma City leads the all-time series 27–23. In the current seven-game set, El Paso holds a 3–2 edge — the Chihuahuas won the opener 4–3 (25 Aug), split a doubleheader (26 Aug, losing Game 2 6–0), then won 5–4 on 27 August before OKC took Friday's game. Four of the five games have been decided by one run.

Saturday is game six of the seven-game set. A Comets win levels the series at 3–3 and sets up a Sunday decider. A Chihuahuas win clinches the series. Oklahoma City has already been eliminated from first-half contention (Sugar Land won the PCL East first half) but remains in the mix for a playoff spot via second-half standing or overall record.

The Comets have featured multiple Los Angeles Dodgers on MLB rehab assignments this series. Catcher Will Smith (neck, 60-day IL) played Tuesday and Thursday. Pitchers Gavin Stone (shoulder, full-season IL) threw 4.0 scoreless innings Wednesday, Blake Treinen (elbow, 60-day IL) appeared Wednesday and Thursday, and Bobby Miller (shoulder, 60-day IL) earned the Game 2 win Wednesday with 3.0 scoreless frames. It is not confirmed which, if any, will appear Saturday.

Hyeseong Kim has been the Comets' hottest hitter in the series, batting .615 (8-for-13) over a four-game hitting streak entering Saturday, with a triple and two stolen bases. Ryan Fitzgerald leads all Triple-A hitters with 145 hits and is batting .538 (7-for-13) with three extra-base hits in the series.

El Paso's Marcos Castañon homered and doubled in Thursday's win. Ethan Salas added a RBI triple. No injury or roster changes were reported for the Chihuahuas as of Friday.

The matchup boils down to OKC's pitching against an El Paso offence that has found enough timely hitting to win three games. The Comets have held opponents to four runs or fewer in 10 of their last 13 games but have struggled to score themselves, plating three runs or fewer in six of their last seven games entering Friday. The Comets batted .189 with 15 runs over a six-game stretch through Wednesday.

El Paso's pitching has been the PCL's worst by most measures, but the Chihuahuas have kept games close in this series, winning three games by one run each.

Oklahoma City — Ryan Fitzgerald (SS/2B). Leads all Triple-A with 145 hits. Has reached base safely in all five series games. His bat is the engine of the OKC lineup. Hyeseong Kim (2B/OF). On a four-game tear and hitting over .600 in the series. Bobby Miller / Gavin Stone (RHP). If either pitches on rehab assignment, their presence changes the game — both have been effective in short outings this month.

El Paso — Marcos Castañon (IF). Homered and doubled Thursday and has been the Chihuahuas' most dangerous bat in the series. Ethan Salas (C). The Padres' top catching prospect connected for a RBI triple Thursday and provides a right-handed threat against OKC pitching.

The Comets are the better team on paper — far superior run differential, home-field advantage, and coming off a win — but have played El Paso tight all series, with four of five games decided by one run. OKC's offence remains a question mark after a prolonged cold stretch. The total is interesting: El Paso's pitching allows runs at a high rate (7.25 per game in the second half), but OKC has scored three or fewer in six of their last seven. The under has been a viable trend during OKC's cold offensive spell. For the moneyline, OKC will be the favourite, but the one-run margin trend suggests taking the run line on either side carries risk.

Can the Comets' offence finally break out against the PCL's worst pitching staff? If OKC scores four-plus runs, they should win. If El Paso keeps it to a one-run game for the fifth time in six meetings, the Chihuahuas have proven they can finish.
