Santos vs Dorados

The defining sequence came in the fourth quarter. Santos, having clawed back from an earlier deficit to within striking distance, needed defensive stops to complete the comeback. Dorados, however, ratcheted up their scoring when it mattered most — dropping 29 points in the final period after a similar 29-point fourth quarter in their previous fixture against Lobos on 20 August.

Dorados' ability to close games has been their hallmark: they entered this match with a 5-5 record in their last 10 but had won three of their previous five, and this victory extended that positive run.

Dorados' scoring depth was the difference. The visitors field a roster built around American imports and Mexican internationals, and their ability to find points from multiple sources made them difficult to contain. Santos — led by Javion Blake (23.7 ppg), Jared Wilson-Frame (15.0 ppg), and Jacob Calloway (13.0 ppg) in season averages — kept pace offensively but could not get the stops required on the other end.

Makhel Mitchell (10.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg) and Eric Griffin (8.8 ppg, 7.8 rpg) gave Santos a capable frontcourt, but Dorados' perimeter game pulled the defence out of shape.

The combined 196 points is a significant jump from the season averages of both teams (Santos 79.6 ppg, Dorados 83.8 ppg). The 102 points Dorados scored is their second-highest total of the season behind a 106-point outing against Lobos on 20 August. For Santos, the 94 points represent a season-best offensive performance — 14.4 points above their average — which makes the loss sting more than a blowout would.

This was also a reversal of the 24-point gap from the 24 August meeting (87-63), where Santos could not crack 65 points. The 31-point swing in offensive production between the two matches shows Santos' adjustment but also Dorados' vulnerability when facing a motivated opponent.

Dorados (9-5) moved into a tie for fourth place in the 14-team LNBP standings alongside Lobos Puebla (8-5) and Fuerza Regia (8-5), trailing Soles de Mexicali (11-3), Panteras (9-5), and Astros de Jalisco (8-4). The win gives them three victories in their last five outings — a W-L-W-L-W pattern since 20 August.

Santos (5-8) remain in 10th position, level on games with Diablos Rojos and Gambusinos but ahead on wins. The improvement from the 63-point showing two days earlier is a positive sign, but the defence conceded 100+ for only the second time this season (previously a 106-point game against Lobos).

Dorados' next fixture is not yet confirmed from published schedules at time of writing. Santos travel to face Diablos Rojos del México on 29 August.

Dorados completed the sweep but will know that a repeat of the defensive lapses that allowed Santos to score 94 will not fly against the division's elite. Santos, for their part, showed real character to bounce back from the 24-point defeat with a season-best offensive display — there is enough there to suggest they can climb the standings if they find consistency on defence.
