Finland seized control from the opening tip. The first quarter saw the visitors build an early lead they would never relinquish. By halftime Finland led 36-35, but the margin ballooned in the third quarter.

The second half proved decisive. Finland outscored Estonia heavily after the break, blowing the game open with a formidable offensive display that pushed the lead beyond 20 points. Estonia, who had lost 85-67 to Hungary three days earlier on 27 August, lacked the firepower to respond.

Finland continued to pour on the pressure in the fourth quarter, pushing the final margin to 96-67.

The third quarter was where Finland separated themselves decisively. After a relatively tight first half, the Finnish offence erupted behind balanced scoring and relentless defensive pressure. Estonia had no answer for the visitors' pace and shot-making, and the game was effectively over by the start of the fourth.

Lauri Markkanen — Finland's NBA star and leading scorer in the qualifiers (18.5 PPG) — led the charge. His ability to score from all three levels proved too much for the Estonian defence. The Utah Jazz forward has been Finland's focal point throughout the campaign.

Mikael Jantunen (6.3 RPG in the competition) brought energy on both ends and was a force on the glass. Edon Maxhuni (14.0 PPG) provided crucial secondary scoring, while Olivier Nkamhoua (12.3 PPG) added depth to the Finnish attack.

For Estonia, Stefan Vaaks (19.5 PPG in the qualifiers) and Henri Drell (19.0 PPG) fought hard, but the supporting cast struggled to match Finland's depth. Maik-Kalev Kotsar (15.5 PPG, 10.5 RPG) put in a typically all-round shift but lacked consistent help.

Finland's 96 points marked their highest output of the Second Round, well above their tournament average of 78.4 PPG. Estonia, who had averaged 82.3 PPG across the qualifiers, were held 15 points below their norm — a testament to Finland's defensive intensity.

The head-to-head record now stands at 8 wins for Finland from nine meetings since 2018 (with one draw), underscoring a one-sided Baltic rivalry. Finland are now unbeaten in the last nine encounters.

The result keeps Finland well positioned in Group L alongside France. With the top teams from each Second Round group advancing to the World Cup in Qatar (27 August — 12 September 2027), this was a vital road victory for the Finns.

Estonia have now lost two consecutive games in this window following the 85-67 defeat to Hungary on 27 August. Their qualification hopes are slipping.
