Igor Gomes (Atletico-MG) — The unlikely hero. Introduced in the 71st minute, he scored the winner with practically his first meaningful touch. It was his first goal of the 2026 campaign and only his 15th appearance of the season across all competitions. Out of contract at year's end and out of the club's plans, he delivered when it mattered most.

Victor Hugo (Atletico-MG) — Alert and well-positioned to capitalise on Carlos Miguel's first error. His 54th-minute opener was simple finishing but required the awareness to follow the shot.

Carlos Miguel (Palmeiras) — The match's defining figure for the wrong reasons. Two basic handling errors directly cost his side two goals and, with them, the chance to open an eight-point gap at the summit.

Felipe Anderson (Palmeiras) — Introduced at half-time, scored the equaliser with a composed finish that took a crucial deflection. His defensive lapse on the second goal, however, undid his positive contribution.

Palmeiras dominated possession (roughly 70% per match reports) and created more chances, including a disallowed penalty early on. Yet their one goal from 75-plus minutes of pressure undershoots what the approach play merited — partly because Atletico-MG's defence, led by Ruan and Lyanco, held firm when it counted. Palmeiras were the better side for long stretches but were undone by two individual errors from their usually reliable goalkeeper. For Atletico-MG, this was a model of efficiency: absorb pressure, punish mistakes.
