Brann vs Universitatea Cluj

Brann came flying out of the blocks. With barely eight minutes on the clock, D. De Roeve slid a pass through for N. Castro, and the Chilean forward finished coolly to give the hosts the lead — 1-0 on the night, 3-2 on aggregate.

Just as the visitors looked to reach half-time level, Brann struck. In first-half stoppage time (45'), U. Mathisen turned in Castro's assist to restore the Norwegian lead at 2-1, sending Brann into the break with a 4-3 aggregate advantage.

The decisive moment came in the 75th minute. J. Sørensen picked out Castro for his second of the night, the Chilean making no mistake to make it 3-1 on the night and 5-3 on aggregate. Universitatea Cluj pushed late but never seriously threatened a second away goal.

Castro's 75th-minute strike — his third goal of the two-legged tie after also scoring in the first leg — effectively killed the contest. But Castro's second goal forced Universitatea Cluj to need two goals in the final 15 minutes, a mountain too high against a well-drilled Brann defence.

Brann were deserved winners over the two legs, their superior quality in the final third — particularly through Castro — proving the difference against a spirited but ultimately limited Universitatea Cluj side. The Norwegian side will need to tighten up defensively against Apollon Limassol, having conceded three goals across the tie, but their firepower up front gives them a genuine chance of progressing further.
