Vestri vs Rīgas FS

Vestri needed a fast start to have any hope of overturning the 4-1 first-leg deficit, and they got one. T. G. Hafthorsson put the Icelandic side ahead in the 12th minute, giving the home crowd at Kerecis Stadium a flicker of belief.

That flicker lasted four minutes. M. Sylla equalised for RFS in the 16th minute, finishing after S. Panić turned provider — the same Panić who opened the scoring in the first leg. The goal meant Vestri now needed four more to level the tie, and the momentum evaporated as quickly as it had arrived.

RFS had the luxury of making four substitutions by the 73rd minute, rotating fresh legs into a comfortable position.

RFS advance to the UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round, maintaining their European campaign into August. For Vestri, the Icelandic season continues domestically, with European football ending at the second qualifying round for another year. RFS will learn their next opponent in the coming days.
