Flensburg burst out of the blocks, Emil Jakobsen slotting home the season's first goal after just 45 seconds. Aymeric Minne and Emil Bergholt combined to push the hosts to a 5-2 lead by the sixth minute, with Niclas Kirkeløkke extending the margin to 8-5 inside ten minutes.

Marko Grgic, facing his former club, hammered the equaliser at 30-30. Emil Bergholt then completed the turnaround at 32-31 before Pytlick's emphatic strike from the backcourt sealed the win in the 59th minute.

Aymeric Minne (Flensburg) — Six goals from the backcourt, all in the first half when the SG needed early rhythm. His movement caused Eisenach's defence constant problems before he needed treatment on the bench late on.

Marko Grgic (Flensburg) — Playing against his former club, the German international scored several crucial goals including the 30-30 equaliser that swung momentum back Flensburg's way. His familiarity with Eisenach's system was an asset.

Simon Möller (Flensburg) — The goalkeeper made a vital save at 28-30 that prevented Eisenach from building an unassailable lead, and added further stops in the closing minutes as the SG pushed for the win.

Gian Attenhofer (Eisenach) — The visitors' standout performer, scoring consistently from the line and keeping Eisenach in the game during both their first-half recovery and second-half surge.

The 33-31 scoreline reflects a game that was tighter than the two-goal margin suggests. Flensburg shot at near-maximum efficiency in the opening ten minutes but their discipline wavered mid-half, allowing Eisenach to neutralise a five-goal swing across both periods. The real story lies in the final ten minutes: Eisenach led 28-30 but managed only one goal thereafter, while Flensburg scored five in reply. Simon Möller's introduction between the posts provided the stability that Benjamin Buric's early saves had established.

Flensburg start the 2026/27 season with two points, sitting level with other winners on the opening weekend. The SG travel to face Bergischer HC on Wednesday 2 September (19:00 CET). For Eisenach, a brave performance yields no reward — they host TVB Stuttgart next on Saturday 29 August. Head coach Sebastian Hinze will rue the late collapse, having been 28-30 ahead with less than eight minutes to play.

Flensburg left it dangerously late but showed the character that could define their Champions League qualification push. Eisenach exposed their defensive fragilities for long stretches and will take encouragement from large spells — but close doesn't count in the Bundesliga table.
