Ringsted vs Skjern

Ringsted started brightly. Evgeni Pevnov opened the scoring in the first minute, and when Pauli Hentze Rasmussen made it 3-1 with a fast-break finish in the fourth minute, the hosts looked in control. Ahmed Sameh (7 goals) and Rasmus Graffe (6 goals) kept Ringsted ahead for much of the opening quarter, with a Victor Wolf penalty stretching the lead to 7-4.

But Skjern's back court gradually found its rhythm. Axel Månsson (10 goals) scored three first-half breakthroughs, and Marcus Midtgaard — the game's top scorer with 11 — began finding space through the Ringsted defence. Svend Rughave, who finished with a 30% save rate (9 saves), tightened up in goal, while Skjern switched to a 5-1 defensive system that suffocated Ringsted's central attacks. The back-court trio of Midtgaard, Månsson and Mads Bjergfelt (5 goals) combined for 26 of Skjern's 40 goals.

Ringsted managed only 12 goals in the second half — half their first-half output — while Skjern poured in 21.

Skjern's switch to a 5-1 defence at half-time changed the game entirely. Assistant coach Rasmus Wilbek explained post-match via the club's official website:

"We changed the game immediately in the second half. We came out with a lot of energy, kept momentum, and stood in a nice 5-1 defence where they were forced to find other solutions. From there I think we controlled the pace."

Mads Bjergfelt was the key man in that defensive system, patrolling the central zone and disrupting Ringsted's playmaking. The hosts' attack, which had flowed freely through Graffe and Sameh in the first period, ran into a wall.

Marcus Midtgaard (Skjern) — The Player of the Match. The back court specialist scored 11 goals with clinical efficiency, punishing Ringsted from range and off the dribble. His movement drew defenders and created space for Månsson.

Axel Månsson (Skjern) — Added 10 goals from the playmaker position, including three first-half breakthroughs. His ability to penetrate the 6-0 defence was decisive.

Svend Rughave (Skjern) — The goalkeeper's 9 saves at 30% efficiency proved vital. Ringsted's shooters managed only a 10% save rate from counterpart Malte Eichhorst.

Ahmed Sameh (Ringsted) — The home side's brightest spark, scoring 7 goals and providing the assist for Pevnov's opener. He kept Ringsted competitive in the first half but ran out of support after the break.

The 21-12 second-half split tells the story of a game that was competitive for 30 minutes and one-sided for the other 30. Ringsted's first-half output (18 goals at roughly a goal every 100 seconds) was sustainable only if their defence held — it didn't. Skjern's 40 goals came from 11 different scorers, illustrating the depth of their attacking options even without injured regulars René Rasmussen (hand), Jacob Holm (hamstring) and Jon Lindenchrone. Samuel Burka made his league debut from Skjern's Talent Academy, stepping into the gap.

The 833 attendance at the neutral Slagelse venue was modest but vocal, with Ringsted playing away from their usual home base.

Both teams entered the round with 0 points after opening-day losses — Ringsted had lost 40-34 to SAH on 26 August, while Skjern fell 35-29 to GOG on 25 August. This result lifts Skjern to 2 points in the regular season standings, while Ringsted remain on 0 at the bottom of the table alongside several other winless sides.

Skjern now face two home games at Skjern Bank Arena: Mors-Thy Håndbold on Wednesday 2 September, followed by Aalborg Håndbold on Saturday 5 September. Ringsted travel to face SAH again on 5 September in what is already shaping up as a critical early-season fixture.

Skjern's second-half demolition showed the gap between these two sides. The 5-1 defensive switch, combined with Rughave's improved goalkeeping, turned a tight contest into a runaway. For Ringsted, the concern is not the first-half fight — it is that they had no answers when Skjern raised the intensity.
