Jinesjö Karlsson's first-period strike gave MoDo a lead they never surrendered. MoDo's 1-0 win was their second of pre-season — they beat Sundsvall 6-0 but lost to Brynäs (2-5) and Swedish champions Skellefteå (1-3) prior to this. The shutout marks an improvement from the defensive lapses that cost them against Skellefteå, where they conceded all three goals in the first two periods.

Björklöven, meanwhile, have now lost both pre-season games (1-3 vs Brynäs, 0-1 vs MoDo) as they build towards their return to the SHL.

For MoDo, the result provides a confidence boost ahead of their final pre-season tests: away to Luleå on 1 September and at home against Timrå on 4 September. The clean sheet against an SHL-calibre opponent will be particularly encouraging for head coach Mikael Karlberg's squad, who are aiming to improve on last season's fourth-place finish in the HockeyAllsvenskan.

Björklöven continue their SHL preparations with a home match against Skellefteå on 28 August, followed by another meeting with MoDo on 8 September in Umeå. Head coach Magnus Bogren will expect a significant improvement in performance.

A tight, typical pre-season derby settled by one moment of quality. MoDo will take more from the clean sheet than the narrow scoreline suggests, while Björklöven have clear work to do before the SHL season begins.
