Ketterä needed just 45 seconds of the final period to find the equaliser. Defenceman Valtteri Viirret netted his first of the pre-season at 40:45, assisted by Aaron Hakala and Eemil Laurell, to level the game at 1-1.

The home side seized control at 46:53 when Lenni Tiihonen scored what proved to be the game-winner, a goal that came during a stretch of sustained Ketterä pressure after the equaliser had shifted momentum.

JoKP pulled goaltender Jester Rossi for an extra attacker with 94 seconds remaining, but Joona Lehtinen sealed the result with an empty-net goal at 59:46, with Valtteri Piironen drawing the assist.

Lenni Tiihonen — Ketterä's game-winning goal in the 47th minute was the decisive moment of the match. He was the home side's most dangerous forward in the third-period surge.

Reima-Ville Roos (Ketterä) — The Ketterä goaltender stopped all 19 shots he faced after the opening goal, including 14 combined saves in the second and third periods. His clean sheet after the 5:07 mark gave his team the platform to mount a comeback.

Jester Rossi (Kiekko-Pojat) — The JoKP netminder made 20 saves and had Ketterä shut out for 40 minutes before the floodgates opened. He had no chance on the empty-net goal that made it 3-1.

Valtteri Viirret (Ketterä) — Scored the equaliser 45 seconds into the third period, the goal that fundamentally changed the game's trajectory.

Both teams registered 20 shots on goal, but the distribution tells the story: Rossi stopped 9 of 9 in the first and 6 of 6 in the second, then faced 5 shots in the third and allowed 2 before the empty-netter. Roos made 5 saves in the first, 8 in the second and 6 in the third to keep Ketterä within striking distance.

Ketterä were penalised three times for 6 minutes, while JoKP were called for two minor penalties for 4 minutes. Neither side converted on the powerplay (JoKP 0/3, Ketterä 0/2), meaning all four goals came at even strength or empty net.

Ketterä improved to 2-1 in pre-season action after this fixture, having previously beaten TUTO Hockey 4-2 on 7 August and lost 5-1 to TUTO on 21 August. Kiekko-Pojat dropped to 1-2 in pre-season, following a 6-0 win over Urho (6 August) and a 3-1 loss to Liiga side Jukurit (21 August).

These two Mestis rivals meet again in pre-season on 3 September in Joensuu, before their regular-season opener — Ketterä host Kiekko-Vantaa on 11 September, while Kiekko-Pojat face IPK at home on the same date.

A pre-season tale of two games: JoKP controlled 40 minutes with disciplined defence and an early lead, but Ketterä's third-period explosion exposed the difference in fitness and depth at this stage of preparation. The 3-0 final period was emphatic, even if the overall shot count was dead even.
