Zaglebie Sosnowiec vs Frydek-Mistek

Frýdek-Místek stormed out of the gates. Defenceman Michal Rybnikár opened the scoring at 7:25 of the first period (assisted by Lednický) and then doubled the lead in the 18th minute with his second of the night, giving the Czech Maxa Liga side a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Zagłębie emerged for the second period a different team. Eemeli Sirkia pulled one back at 33:00 and Dawid Sozanski levelled the score at 37:00 to send the teams into the second intermission tied 2-2.

Patrik Haas restored Frýdek-Místek's lead at 38:00 of the middle frame (3-2), but the home side refused to fade. Bartosz Dawid (assisted by Gromadzki) made it 3-3 at 43:00. When Aron Chmielewski (from Olkkonen) put Sosnowiec ahead 4-3 at 52:00, the momentum had fully swung. Matěj Chlán (assist Ročák) equalised for Frýdek at 57:00 to force overtime at 4-4.

In the 3-on-3 extra period, Savilahti buried the winner from Chmielewski's pass at 61:00, giving Zagłębie a hard-fought 5-4 victory.

Sosnowiec's two-goal burst early in the second period — Sirkia at 33:00 followed by Sozanski at 37:00 — erased Frýdek-Místek's comfortable cushion and turned a controlled away performance into an open contest. The Czech side never regained the two-goal lead they had built in the first period, and the momentum shift proved decisive.

The scoreline suggests an even contest, but the period-by-period splits tell a different story: Frýdek-Místek dominated the opening frame (2-0) while Sosnowiec outscored them 5-2 across the final 40 minutes plus overtime. The visitors will rue letting a two-goal lead evaporate inside three minutes of the second period.

This was Zagłębie's fifth pre-season friendly ahead of the 2026/27 Tauron Hokej Liga campaign. They face HKM Zvolen away on 1 September before hosting Unia Oświęcim on 9 September. Frýdek-Místek, preparing for the Czech Maxa Liga season, next play at home against Vsetín on 2 September.

Both sides will take lessons: Sosnowiec from their resilience and finishing ability; Frýdek-Místek from the need to manage a lead for a full 60 minutes.

An entertaining pre-season contest that swung wildly — Frýdek-Místek's strong start undone by Sosnowiec's second-period fightback and a composed overtime finish that rewarded the home side's persistence. For a friendly in late August, the intensity and goal count delivered real preparation value for both rosters.
