Connecticut dominated from the opening tip. The Sun held Chicago to 33% shooting in the first half — including 0-of-12 from three-point range — and led 44-29 at the break. With 2:20 left and Chicago within three points, Edwards rejected a Sky driver, collected the rebound and sprinted the floor for a transition layup. The sequence — block to bucket in under 10 seconds — swung momentum decisively back to Connecticut after the Sky had seized it with their 21-4 surge. The Sun never led by fewer than five the rest of the way.

Diamond Miller, Connecticut Sun — 21 PTS Miller provided consistent secondary scoring, knocking down mid-range jumpers and attacking the rim. She shot efficiently and helped space the floor for Edwards inside.

Connecticut won three of four quarters but lost the fourth 28-16 — a statistical outlier that tells the real story. The Sun built a 20-point cushion through stifling first-half defence (33% opponent shooting, 0-12 from three) and efficient offence. Chicago's 28-point fourth quarter nearly flipped the game — it was more than the Sky managed in the entire first half (29 points) — but the hole was too deep. The Sun's 71-53 advantage through three quarters reflected total control; Chicago's 28-16 finishing kick only highlighted the damage already done.

Connecticut improves to 10-27 but remains in 14th place, already eliminated from playoff contention. The Sun host Golden State on Wednesday (26 August) in their next outing.

Chicago drops to 15-23, sitting 10th in the league and also out of playoff contention. The Sky travel to face New York on Saturday (30 August).

Milestone watch: Courtney Vandersloot became the second player in WNBA history to reach 3,000 career assists, achieving the feat at the highest per-game rate in league history.

Connecticut were without Brittney Griner (left knee) and Olivia Nelson-Ododa (right knee). Chicago lost two guards in the second half: Natasha Cloud exited with a right knee injury after 16 first-half minutes, and DiJonai Carrington was limited to four minutes due to a foot issue.

This was a game of two halves — or rather, three dominant quarters and one tense finish. Edwards' career night and a suffocating first-half defence were enough to withstand Chicago's late charge. The Sun showed they can compete when their supporting cast steps up, but the 10-27 record tells the real story of a lost season. For Chicago, Cardoso's continued development (14th double-double) is a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing campaign.
