First Quarter: Sparks 25 – Storm 11

Los Angeles opened the game with a stunning 13-0 run, forcing a Seattle timeout just 2:40 in. Rae Burrell scored twice in the paint, Erica Wheeler hit a three, and Nneka Ogwumike added a jumper before Dearica Hamby's fast-break layup made it 11-0. Ogwumike's turnaround jumper from 17 feet pushed the lead to 13-0, and the Sparks never looked back. Seattle managed just 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting.

Second Quarter: Sparks 27 – Storm 22

The Storm found some offensive rhythm — Jade Melbourne hit a three and Flau'jae Johnson scored on a reverse layup — but the Sparks answered every run. Burrell scored 10 points in the quarter alone, and Cameron Brink converted four free throws. Los Angeles shot 61.5% from the floor in the half and led 52-33 at the break.

Third Quarter: Sparks 18 – Storm 19

Seattle's best period saw Dominique Malonga score inside and Jordan Horston add points from the line. But Ogwumike answered with a three-pointer and a layup assisted by Dearica Hamby, keeping the margin at 70-52 entering the fourth.

Fourth Quarter: Sparks 20 – Storm 22

The Storm played even basketball over the final 10 minutes but never cut the deficit below 16 points. Los Angeles shot a red-hot 57.1% from the field for the game — the Storm's defence allowed its second-highest opponent field-goal percentage of the season.

The first 5:52 told the whole story. The Sparks opened 13-0, hitting six of their first seven shots while forcing three Seattle turnovers. The Storm called a timeout at 7-0, swapped two players, but nothing changed — Ogwumike's 17-foot jumper made it 13-0 moments later. Seattle never led and never tied. For a team that entered averaging 78.3 points per game, spotting the Sparks a 13-point lead in the opening minutes was insurmountable.

Nneka Ogwumike (Los Angeles Sparks) — Player of the Match

24 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals. The 16-year veteran shot 10-of-14 from the floor, knocked down her only three-point attempt, and committed zero turnovers in 31 minutes. It was her second consecutive 24-point outing after scoring 24 against Washington on Friday. Ogwumike's all-around performance — scoring, playmaking and defensive disruption — set the tone from the opening tip.

Rae Burrell (Los Angeles Sparks)

19 points on 7-of-9 shooting, 5 rebounds, 3 assists. Burrell torched Seattle's defence in the second quarter, scoring 10 points in the frame, and finished a team-best +18 in plus-minus.

Flau'jae Johnson (Seattle Storm)

A tough night for the rookie guard: 14 points on 5-of-14 shooting, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 turnovers. Johnson, who scored 20 against Toronto on Wednesday, was hounded by the Sparks' defence and picked up a technical foul late in the second quarter.

Dominique Malonga (Seattle Storm)

12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks in 27 minutes. The rookie centre was Seattle's most efficient scorer (6-of-10 FG) and the only Storm player who consistently threatened inside.

The decisive stat was field-goal percentage: Los Angeles shot 57.1% (20-of-35) while Seattle managed just 31.6% (12-of-38). The Sparks' 22-11 rebounding advantage — led by Ogwumike and Hamby — limited the Storm to one offensive board all game. From three-point range, Los Angeles shot 41.7% (5-of-12) compared to Seattle's 18.2% (2-of-11). The Storm actually won the turnover battle 10-8 and scored 13 points off Sparks giveaways, but their inability to generate quality looks against the Sparks' switching defence proved fatal.

The Sparks improved to 15-25 and moved within striking distance of the final playoff spot in the WNBA standings with three weeks remaining in the regular season. Seattle dropped to 8-32, firmly in last place with the league's worst record. The Storm have now lost nine of their last 10 and have been eliminated from postseason contention.

Los Angeles returns home to face the Dallas Wings on Wednesday, September 2. Seattle travels to Phoenix to face the Mercury on the same night.

This was a mismatch from the opening possession. The Sparks' veteran core — led by an inspired Ogwumike performance — dismantled a Storm team that has nothing left to play for but pride. Los Angeles shot with precision, defended with intensity, and never let Seattle believe it had a chance. A routine win for a team still chasing the playoffs; another painful lesson for a rebuilding Storm squad counting down the days to the off-season.
